Proper Child Safety and it’s importance is usually taken for granted. As parents, it is our responsibility to keep our kids safe at all times. And one of the things that we should know is How To Keep Children Safe Inside the Car. As we all know, kids are playful and are prone to keep moving most especially when they start getting bored. We need to discipline them and teach them as early as possible on how to behave when traveling and when riding a car. It is a parent’s responsibility however to always check and make sure that the kid follows instruction, because it is a kid’s nature to break the rules and do otherwise than told, because of curiosity. We have to educate them and make them understand the importance of using seat belts and child restraints, what they are for, why they need them, and what could happen if they don’t follow. When it comes to infants and young ones who do not understand yet, it is a parent’s full responsibility to ensure their safety.

Proper Child Safety

Here are some important “Proper Child Safety” points that parents MUST keep in mind when traveling with a child inside the car:

Children should be seated in the backseat – This is because the backseat is the safest place for children when traveling in a car.

Do not put a child restraint in the front seat with a passenger airbag – Child Restraint should be placed at the backseat as well.

Do not let children and babies sit your lap in a car - Kids and babies can get hurt and may have injuries during sudden brakes and swerves.

Do not share seat belts – I guess this is understandable. Seat belts are meant to protect each individual.

Newborn Babies weighing up to nine kilograms, or approximately six months old, should travel in a baby capsule or infant restraint – Infants and babies are very sensitive, and they need extra protection. Seat belts for kids and adults cant protect a helpless baby and may just harm him/her, so it is important to have proper infant restraint or capsule when traveling.

Ensure that the child restraint and seat belt straps are fitted snugly and are not twisted – This is to ensure full protection and to avoid injuries.

Seat belts should never be worn under the arm – Instead of protecting your child, this may endanger his or her life instead. If seat belts or child restraints are worn improperly, sudden brakes or possible impact during accident, puts pressure over the chest, which could cause instant death due to ruptured aorta.

Seat belts and child car seats reduce injuries or the possibility of being killed in a traffic crash by 55 and 75% respectively. - As responsible adults and parents, we must ensure the safety of our children at all times by taking safety precautions.

Proper Child Safety is not just a thing for parents, but all adults accompanying a child. It is also a great idea is to have a sticker that says “Children inside the Car”, so drivers of the vehicles following you would be aware that they should be careful as well.
I really get annoyed with parents who take child safety for granted. Our little ones depend on us to guard them and guide them. More than just providing them with safety gadgets, we have to be responsible drivers too. And if you’re not the one driving, remind whoever it is to be careful because the lives of the people inside the car is in their hands. Last and most important of all, always seek for guidance from the Lord and pray for him to keep your family safe at all times.
