My mom’s friend just came home recently. She worked in Brunei and lived there for such a long time. She told us about her daily life there. She works at the office of a know petroleum company. After office hours, she goes with my friends window shopping, and buy something for the family. They usually went to Kuala Belait to eat noodles at the second floor of the public market. They liked the Chinese foods served there. Sometimes, they went to Chinese restaurants in Seria, but not so often, because it was expensive there.

During weekends, they went to Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. That’s where bought some electronic gadgets or device, command communications systems and other things for the home and family, as well as the homecoming giveaways they brought us. During public holidays, they went to Meri (a part of Malaysia) to buy jewelries and other things. She said it’s very cheap there compared to other places.

She said that their life in Brunei is great. The people are very friendly and hospitable. Their culture is similar with ours – there was no culture shock to adjust to. The climate was good, and no strong typhoons. The sun was always warm, and there were few rains in a year. The areas were clean, and the air was fresh and unpolluted. The surroundings and the thoroughfares were green with trees. And there were less traffic jams there.

Keeping Connected This Summer

Dad bought extra portable phone batteries so that mom can talk with her friends for extra long time without having to get stuck nearby the original phone line, since she has a lot of things to do at home, and has to keep moving. Keeping here friends on loud speaker also helps, because she can place the portable phone nearby then just keep talking even while she’s busy doing stuff.

Talking to her friends over the phone is one of the ways that my mom keeps connected with her friend this summer. Skype is another, because it’s great to have a webcam chat with our relatives abroad, once in awhile. Or even just with friends, who’s like to see and chat with each other, while seeing each other through the webcam anytime. We also suggested it to mom, but most of her friends don’t really have access to a pc all the time, so yeah, there’s still nothing like the old school telephone.

Christmas Lights Everywhere

Christmas Trees of different kinds, sizes and colors and different types of outdoor lighting fixtures are installed all over the city. Anywhere you go, you will see different colors of lights. Christmas season really have a different impact to people, because for some reason, seeing those lights and decors, make me feel happy inside.

Talking about Christmas trees and lights, we already have ours set-up too. We have two Christmas trees, one inside the house, and the other a real tree in our garden which we decorated, to look really nice. Kids in the neighborhood often stop by to look at it, and some even pose to take a photo by the tree.

We bought the Christmas lights that has this protection from the weather, most especially the rain so it wont cause any short-circuit, or get ruined easily. At least, we can keep it after Christmas, then use it again next year.

Christmas Party

Christmas party here, there and everywhere. People are eating and drinking to celebrate. But we should not forget that aside from celebrating, we also have to keep in mind, staying fit and healthy, because health is wealth, and there’s nothing more worth celebrating than having good health.

So, if you’ve been spending your week partying and drinking, take time to also do some colon cleansing and alcohol detox, to keep your system free from any harmful toxins, that may cause you to get sick.

The Christmas Bazaar

The women in our community just organized a Christmas Bazaar within the village, where all the residents can get the chance to buy stuff at low prices. They also have auctions for fun, and some are selling their old stuff that they no longer use, for a very cheap price. These people are the type who loves to shop and don’t get to use their things often, that’s why most of the sold merchandise are good as new.
We are also allowed to invite outsider friends to buy and enjoy the mini concert of the community choir. Some young people also formed their own dance groups, and there will be a guest band performer too.

All items being sold are subjected to tax by the local government that’s why they use epson receipt printer, and there is also a booth where all items that are being sold are donated for a cause, and all proceeds will go to the community funds for future outreach projects.

The Village’s Play-park

The whole community is trying to raise money to be able to upgrade the village’s play-park for the kids. The guys in the village all worked together in planting trees and bermuda grass, and the landscaping. The girls and housewives worked together in planting flowering plants.

We plan to build a Treehouse, buy a new set of seesaws, slides and a new wooden swing set for the kid’s park. It’s great to see that everyone is working together and contributing, as well as doing their share of soliciting funds from friends and sponsors.

We are looking forward to making the kid’s Christmas a great one by giving them a place where they can have fun, enjoy and play. Iñigo is one of those kids who love to spend time at the village’s playpark. Even parents and nannies love to hang out at the little park as well. We also jog around the park every morning or afternoon.

With the whole community working on it, for sure, our project will be realized in no time. Working hand and hand plus putting out hearts into it, makes the village’s play-park more wonderful and fun that it already is.

Bday gift for Him

All year round we buy gifts for different people on their birthdays, and we even buy ourselves a gift too, and it makes us really happy doing that, the same way that it makes those people happy too.

We all know that Christmas is celebrating one important birthday, the birth of Jesus Christ. He has given you this world and all that’s in it, and everyday he gives you the gift of life from the moment you wake up until you fall asleep. How about you? What’s your bday gift for him this Christmas?

Hot coffee to warm the soul

Sometimes, all it takes is a cup of hot coffee to warm our souls. Did you ever experience feeling so down like you are too tired to do anything. Sometimes you just want to stay in bed, and not go to work. Then your wife goes to your bedroom to wake you up with a kiss, a sweet smile on her face, plus a warm cup of coffee with that nice aroma filling the air.

Then for some reason you get warmed up and get ready to start a new day. amazing, right? I think, it’s the same reason why, you will see a lot of people who are on their way to work, holding their mugs of coffee and drinking them. But I think, coffee is also great even just for lounging. I love inviting my friends over to have a cup of coffee, and enjoy talking and spending time together.

It reminds me of the good old college days when we used to play, or study with all our stuff in contemporary coffee tables of the nearby cafe, and staying up until early in the morning, to prepare for the exams the next day. We also do the same thing after sleeping the whole day after the exams, just to relax, lounge and talk. It’s funny how a cup of coffee has brought us all closer.
