I like pet dogs very much. When I was a child, we had a nice brown dog called Kirby. He was obedient, and always accompanied me wherever I go. He barked at rascals and drunkards, and they hated him so much. I had a poignant memory of how he was trapped and butchered by them. I cried so much, and I couldn’t eat for days.

Since then, I stopped rearing dogs. It hurt me so much to see my pet dog hurt. It took years before I resumed rearing dogs again.

Now we have two new pet dogs at home. We call them Lois and Clark, obviously the names were derived from superman series and movie, a family favorite. They are faithful guards of our house. We can leave the house alone anytime with peace of mind because of them.

We got Clark from the street. My kid found him in the street, he was bloody and odorous with sores and must have been reared by a mother dog who suffered from dog mange. The kid brought him home, and we took good care of him until his sores has fully healed, and his brown furs started to grow.

On the other hand, Lois’ mother was a Japanese dog. He has a thick white fur with the shades of gray. His tail is very short.
Lois and Clark are good dogs, but Clark is more domesticated than Lois. Clark behaves well, and easily obeys all instructions, while Lois does not follow sometimes. Clark has no problem taking a bath, but Lois runs away at the sight of water and soap.

Lois, as is common with most dogs, growls when his food is set or touched, while Clark just waits meekly until his food is given back to him. We love them both and we plan to keep them for the rest of their life.

One time my mom passed by my neighbor, and she asked what was that smelly thing on their backyard. Our neighbor said that it was their old carpet and they will be disposing it because they are having ahard time maintaining it for cleaning. Mom asked what their problem was, and they said it has something to do with their pet dog.

Mom told them about training a dog and I think they never got to do it because when they got the dog it was already big. Mom suggested that they try to place him in a doghouse first and not let him in the house until he is trained. We trained our dogs when they were still puppies, in order to prevent them from scratching the rugs or peeing and pooping indoors. It actually works, and it’s pretty easy to do. you just have to let him stay in one place and wait until he does his thing, either pee or poop, then let it stay in that place. Next time he feels like it he will try to smell and look for that spot and will go there every time.

Our neighbor is now trying this method and they are thankful that we taught them how, because they were already having problems with their smelly carpets and floor.

Our cat Bob is probably one of the most amazing pets in this world. He is not only sweet but he is also considerate, whenever he needs to poop or pee, he goes into the vacant lot and does his thing there. My mom and Abuela don’t have a hard time cleaning up his mess, and they are no longer complaining.

I guess it is true that as cats grow older they become well-behaved. Bob used to be so messy and he plays and scratches furniture at home, but after we bough him cat supplies with all the toys and other cat necessities, he has learned to have this sense of knowing what is his and what is not, what he can play with, and what he can’t. He also gets along well with our other pets.

Well behaved pets deserve a treat too, aside from buying their supplies, you can also buy them toys and make them a special meal everytime they do something good, this way they would know that they would get a price if they behave well. This trick works for pet dogs too.

Owning a pet didn’t come easy for us. We had to consider so many things, the most important of which is my little brother’s health. So, for how many years we got contented with pets that we can’t really play with such as fishes and birds. My younger brother JR was sickly when we were young, that’s why we never had a pet coz mom was scared that it might not be good for him. It was only when he was well and the doctor said that it was okay and that we could start considering getting one.

Our first was a bunny, his name was Snowby beacause he was as white as a snowball when he curls. But poor Snowby didn’t last long , he got sick and then he died. Jr and Miko cried a lot when we lost our bunny. My mom decided not to get a new pet aside from the fishes that we’ve had. There were too many fishes and we had a huge aquarium, no one weep over those fishes that died anyway. We just removed them, changed the water in the aquarium, put back all the other fishes and try to maintain it.

It was only when Paolo was already 5 years old that our Abuelo Tacio gave us a pet dog. His name was Jack, a black Labrador retriever. We loved Jack so much and he wasn’t just a pet but he was like family and friend to us. Jack was a very playful dog, and he goes with us wherever we go, even to the beach, except when we have to travel really far and it’s not possible to bring him along. Taking care of Jack was easy, we just give him a bath, feed him and keep him clean. He became really big and fat. But just like our bunny after almost 6 years of making us happy, Jack went to sleep and never woke up again. We missed Jack so much and we were all sad… This time, Amari and Pao were the most affected of Jack’s loss. So we all gave up having a pet dog for awhile.

One day JR came home with not just one but two dogs, Balbon was about 4 months old and the one month old puppy Tikoy. He said his close friend was leaving and they wont be able to bring the dogs along. Being such a pet lover and kind hearted person, JR promised to adopt them. They have funny names because they already got used to it and even if we tried calling them in another name, they wont listen. So we got stuck with Balbon and Tikoy.

Then came another pet that JR adopted and brought home. A black kitten this time, a pusang kalye or maybe I should say kuting kalye coz he was just a tiny kitten who can hardly open his eyes. We figured he was just a week old or so, we still had to feed him thru a baby bottle that dad made especially for him. JR suggested that we name him Bob, after the writer Bob Ong. Balbon, and Tikoy didn’t find it hard to get along with the little kitten and they didn’t hurt Bob at all.

Now, we all understand that pets may last for a few years but they don’t last forever. We are concerned with Iñigo because he is still young and for sure he will get sad if we lose any of our pets. So if you are thinking of Owning a pet, be sure you are ready, not only emotionally but also financially, because you need to feed them right, groom them, give them time, play with them… and most of all treat them like family.

Are you interested to get a pet? Do you have time? Can you give your pet the attention and care it needs or you’d rather do other things? Getting a pet is not just like buying a toy that when you get tired of it you can set it aside or ignore it all you want. Pets are living creatures who need time, love, care and attention. We adopt pets to be a part of the family.

If you don’t have time to play with your pet or look after them and provide them with their needs, you’re not ready to have one. Your pet might just leave home like this one. Watch this Video!

Me and my brothers used to have separate rooms, except for Miko and Paolo who shared one room. But ever since we moved in to the new house, we share rooms because there are only four rooms available. There are three rooms at the upstairs and a single room downstairs. The three of them (JR, Miko and Paolo) shares one room, while I share room with of course my wife and Son. My little sister Amari shares room with Abuela downstairs so abuela doesn’t have to go upstairs, and the remaining room goes to my mom and Dad.

As a family, our bonding moments usually happen over food, TV and movies. We don’t go to the movie house to watch movies, I just borrow DVD’s from friends and watch them at home, we prepare food to munch in like the walang kamatayang popcorn and iced tea. The girls love watching Teleserye, while the boys love watching basketball and playing games. We are still lucky coz dad’s cousin handed us down their PS2 and PSP gaming consoles.

I am praying that my cousin Marc would buy a new laptop and hopefully hand me down the one he has right now (dream on). It’s a little hard to go to a cafe or to the school library just to be able to use the PC or do some research. Even my siblings are complaining about the same thing since our PC broke. Dad will have it fixed and he said that he will try to get us a new one before February. Just knowing that he’s doing his best is enough for us. I am also happy coz I will graduate soon, and then I can review for the board exam while working part-time. Dad is just waiting for his new projects and soon as the deal is closed, we will have enough funds for the next school year. At least next school year they won’t be paying for my tuition fee anymore.

This summer (June), my mom’s sister will be home from the US. Mom said they want us to go to the beach. I’m sure it’ll be fun! I’m going to see my cousins again. They will be staying at a hostel or hotel though, because our place is way too small and crowded now and we have no extra room for them to settle in. Like my dad, my mom has only one sister, our aunt Alona who got married to uncle Roy, a filipino guy who is a resident of New York. They have two kids, Marc and Rachel. Marc is my age, while Rachel is Miko’s age. Marc is the one who gave us his gaming consoles when he bought a new one. I’m sure we’ll have fun again this June!

Iñigo [in-yee-go] – born Carlos Iñigo Dizon is the greatest gift that God has ever given to me and my wife Andrea. Aside from the whole family, he is the source of my strength and inspiration. Because of my little man, Daddy Basti is striving to be a better person, husband, son, sibling, and most of all as a young parent. Since dad did not name me after him, he wanted my son to be named after him and JR that’s why my son has the name Iñigo too. I’m not quite sure what’s the significance of that name, all I know is that it’s been passed through generation in our clan, coz dad’s Abuelo has the name Iñigo too.

Iñigo came to our lives at the most unlikely and unexpected time. The family was having a great deal of problems then, and then Iñigo came. It’s normal for parents to be upset, but my parents did not get upset at all. They were happy for me and Andrea and my dad said things like that happen and we should accept it with all our hearts and be ready. Mom told me to be strong and to be more responsible most especially with my studies so that I will be a good example to my son.

They supported me and Andrea all the way, treated her like their own, and has given all their love to Iñigo. At 17, we were too young for the responsibility, and it was hard. But Iñigo made it easier by making us all feel lighter and smile every single day. The whole family were very supportive, and my siblings loves him so much, most especially our little princess Amari who takes being little Auntie seriously. Iñigo is very close to all my siblings, and he is well-loved by my parents who treat him not only as a grandson but as their own child too.

Iñigo’s coming has also changed our lives, because during that time we were all very sad. With my son’s presence, everything has changed and our household became happier and the family well-bonded. He brought us all together and he made us all strong giving us new hope each day. Iñigo’s innocence reminds us that life can be kept simple and we never really had anything when we were small but we survived. Iñigo reminds us that God is good and he continues to shower us with blessings each passing day. My son is a gift from God, to me and Andrea, to JR, Miko, Paolo, Amari, Mom and dad, and also to my grandparents.

I know , I know, this is supposed to be a family thingy, but you see even our pets are part of the family too, even they inherited the last names of my parents, so let me take this opportunity to write about our pet cat first, ok!

Obviously, this isn’t exactly the actual photo of our pet cat, and no our pet cat is not dead, it’s just playing dead.. It’s alive! This may not be the actual photo but this is a good representation of our black pet cat. I have my reasons why I am not able to post a photo of the cat of ours, aside from it’s always playing at the backyard or going out to I’m not sure where, I don’t have a camera! I know what you’re thinking… (What? It’s 2008 and you don’t have a camera?) Well, yeah! that’s reality you know, not everyone can buy a good quality camera for Bob’s sake! I’m having a little sort of budget deficit.

A great deal of monetary crisis is on my side right now, and buying a good quality digital camera is just so not in my plans right now. Ok! It’s in my plans, but I think it would remain just a plan for I’m not sure how long. Although, I’d definitely love to have one. Just in case someone would like to offer to give me their spare cameras, or better yet buy me a new one as a gift. I’d be so crazy over having a digital camera and take pictures of everything I see (photo maniac!) and maybe even have my own photo blog. My brothers especially JR wants to have one but tries to just make use of his camera phone, while Miko does the same. Pao and Amari aren’t so concerned about it either. (So you mean you never had a camera? Poor You!) Oh well not exactly, we used to have one, but it’s gone now. You see… when one thing gets broken, other things seems to follow and that’s when it starts to suck…. Buying a new one at this point isn’t really an option, we’ll just wait till it’s ok to buy a good one again, coz buying a poor quality camera is a waste of money.

You see I’d rather use my money for some other necessary things than spend it on some gadget that I wont be using all the time. (duh, you don’t have money? Why are you blogging?) Oh well, walang pakialamanan! What I’m trying to say is, if others can, why can’t i? Everyone can blog, even my pet cat can blog for Bob’s sake!

Back to Our Pet Cat, sorry, I sort of went off topic. Our pet cat’s name is Bob whose name was usggested by JR who named him after Bob Ong. If you don’t know Bob Ong, you suck! That’s it! Why what were you expecting? For me to tell stories about our cat? Maybe next time, when I feel like it…
