It might sound strange to apply the word “game” to reading, education and learning, but the fact of the matter is when you make something enjoyable and fun for children, they are far more likely to learn because they are not fighting boredom or distraction, they are leaving their minds open to absorb the experience.

What types of reading games for kids are available? There are all different kinds, such as:

Collecting letters or words to match sounds or images

Using images to create a story through pictures based on a sentence or paragraph they have heard

Placing letters in the correct order to create words

Reproducing patterns using the proper colors and shapes

These are just a few examples of some of the reading games for kids you will find on the Net. The purpose of these activities are far greater than helping a child recognize words and spelling, they also stimulate the various parts of the brain that are necessary for improving cognitive function, boosting a child’s successive processing, working memory, visual scanning, comprehension and many other skills.

Getting involved in sports help in every child’s personality development. Teach you kids to get involve and love sport, but make sure that it is a sport that he or she likes to play. Sports isn’t all about winning in a competition, rather it is about having fun while staying fit.

Enroll your kids in a sport that they love and plan to stick with, if they are still undecided which one they would like to focus on, let them experience every possible sport event, until they choose the one that thye feel would fit them best. Then, find a good coach who can give them proper training in the said sport.

Show your support all the way by taking time to be there on their competitions, or simply watch their practice sessions. Teach them to be calm and friendly. Getting your kids involve will not only help develop their agility and skills, but it will also help strengthen their bodies and immune system. And most of all, it will help develop their personality and how to deal with other people. They will learn to work hard to achieve their goals and win.

There’s also one important thing that you should not forget to remind your kids. When it comes to sports, it isn’t all about winning every game, but it’s how they played the game that counts. Win or lose as long as they give it their best shot, always appreciate their efforts.

Potty Training your little Boy is one of the most essential things to do once you feel that he is ready. Mostly this is done prior to your kid getting 2 year’s old. When my son Iñigo is about to become 2 years old, he doesn’t wear diaper anymore, except when traveling or going out and he is very independent already.

We potty trained him early. It wasn’t really hard to train him because my son felt like an adult, he even have this attitude of choosing what he wants to wear as early as 1 y/o. Perhaps it’s because he was surrounded by adults and young adults, with Amari as the youngest. He doesn’t really have too many playmates because there are no kids around. He only gets to see and play with kids at the mall.

The things about diapers is that, although they keep the baby dry and you don’t have to change his undies all the time. It saves us parents from all other expenses, as well as our time. If ever the baby poops or pees a lot, it could still get messy but not as much as when he’s not wearing any diapers. But the downside of it is that diapers are starting to cost a lot and the baby’s skin is likely to get irritated, and usually my mom say it’s the common source of infection in baby girls whenever left unattended. Lucky that we have a baby boy.

They say it’s harder to potty train boys than girls, but with Iñigo he was the one who showed interest in using the potty and he seemed so irritated having to wear his diapers, and he hates hit when it has poop on it that he want the soiled diapers to be taken off him immediately or else he would keep on crying. He felt more comfortable wearing kiddie undies alone without the diapers. And when he was about 2 years and four months old, we let him pee before bedtime, and his diapers usually has so little pee or it is dry until morning, and he would say weewee when he wakes up, meaning he wants to pee and he points at the washroom where we placed his potty training set.

The pooping part was easy but it’s the peeing ang aiming part that was a little challenging. Andrea handled the sitting on the potty when pooping but I had to train him how to pee properly which he has mastered by now, although sometimes he still misses the target especially when something else catches his attention. At first, I had to show him how peeing is done, the hardest part is that I don’t really feel like peeing when he felt like he was going to pee. There’s a technique I’ve learned from dad though, just the way he trained us. He would place that little bottle on the spot and would train us to aim on it. So I did the same and so far Iñigo has learned to do it, dad’s trick really helped a lot.

After he was potty trained, we only let him wear diapers before to sleep most especially when he’s been playing all day and night, or he’s very restless, or when we go out, but when he’s just home he wears nothing but his kiddie undies and shorts. He can pee alone, although we try to still watch over him because he might play with the water. When he feels scared, he either tells Andrea, Abuela Anna or mom, or anyone at home when he wants to pee or poop. I’m so proud of my little boy because he has learned so many things and is growing really fast.

Toys come in a wide variety. Baby Toys or infant playthings, which are usually soft and made of rubber or cloth, and the toddler toys, which are more detailed, and the one that fits the much older kids.

The kind of toys at that age will be generally hands on playthings like musical instruments, and toys that can help develop their craftsmanship and passion for art. Clay modeling for instance, it is among the inexpensive and simple craft toys that kids can play with and enjoy while learning. With a minimal set of directions given, you will notice how clever your child becomes to follow and create figures. Coloring books and crayons are also good stuff to start with, most especially if you are training your kid to have control. You need to be careful in choosing the types of crayons that you buy for your kids. Choose the nontoxic ones that are certified safe for kids. Later you can also start teaching him to use color pens and pencils, and how to hold them properly, and the right strokes to use so he could practice.

Learning Toys can also help you discover if your kid has a gift of art,or of playing any musical instruments by exposing them a variety of art to musical playthings like kids piano, and guitar. There’s an unlimited number of educational toys that you can buy for your kids like blocks with numbers and letters, or the plastic figures of things that have their counterpart in real life — for familiarization and cognitive development.

With the help of Award Winning Toys, learning comes easy, for as long as you guide your little one, with the use of educational toys that they will be interested in. Kids get easily bored, so in order to have their full attention, always try fresh ideas that will be fun and exciting for them while learning something new everyday.

Why Do Little Kids Bite? Is it an indication that our little ones have a behavioral problem? The answer is NO.

Apparently nearly every kid has gone through the stage of biting, but whether they should be tagged as a biter is a different matter. Studies that were carried out regarding this behavior has shown that almost half of the population of kids who are attending day care centers or schools have experienced biting or being bitten 3 times in a year.

The behavior of toddlers biting is a matter of fact usual or common occurrence and there is no need to worry too much about your kid’s tendency to become violent or so. This behavior can be controlled and taken cared of while they are young, only we have to explain to them why biting is not good.

Biting usually occurs in different phases during a child’s development period. The first phase is during the time when their teeth begins to come out of their gums. They normally feel this uncomfortable feeling and this sort of biting can be comforted by biting a teether. And just around the time when your toddler celebrates their 1st birthday is when they start ro experience their 2nd phase of biting. During this stage, they typically bite when they are excited. During this phase, you have to be alert when your toddler attempts to bite. It is necessary that you take frequent measures to stop them right away.

When your toddler reaches the age of two years old, he will likely begin biting once again. This is a phase when your toddler shows that they want to become independent. Your toddler attempts to bite in order to show that they’re in control. At this point, you have to discipline them by making your kid stay still and explain to them that biting can hurt and injure the person they bite, and that it is not a good thing to do. During this stage, your kid simply needs guidance and to be taught what’s wrong and right, and we only need to remind them more often what they must and must not do.

Again, there is no need to worry if your toddler is experiencing a biting phase. You just need to make sure that you closely keep an eye on them and stop them immediately so that they would be reminded to refrain from biting. It would not hurt to provide your toddler something to chew on at this phase either just to pacify the urge to bite, but still the best thing to do is to teach them to control biting by telling them why it is not a good thing to do.

When buying toys for little kids, I have observed that it’s better if you don’t buy them the moment they ask for it, because they are likely to ask for one everything you to the mall. And there are those kids who get tantrums when they don’t get what they want. that’s why it is best to give toys as presents or as rewards for doing good, because it motivates them to do better. It’s also good to choose toys that will not only be fun to play with, but something that they will learn to treasure for life.

This Christmas, I am planning to buy a whole set of die cast toy vehicles especially trucks and construction toy vehicles, but this time it’s not for me but for my son Iñigo. He loves playing with them every time we go to the toy shop and I told him that Santa will give it to him if he will be a good boy. So far he’s been behaving really well. Diecast Toy Vehicles are really popular toys among kids, most especially boys, and even big boys and dads like me. I still collect them up to now, same with my younger brothers. My dad even handed down his die cast toy vehicles collection to us, and we just display them in our living room., because they are worth a lot now. My sonIñigo also learned to appreciate them and shares the same liking for collecting die cast toy cars at his young age. I guess it’s a boy thing and a passion that’s been passed on for generations.

Iñigo personally want to have a complete collection of transformers too but I can’t afford it, so I am planning to buy the less expensive ones. Anyway, my cousin promised him the last time they visited that he will buy him the collection and he’s really excited about it. He even keep on asking if it will be Christmas yet, as if he can’t wait.

As parents, it is our responsibility to encourage our kids to learn, even at a young age. But since they are on their early years, it is not advisable to pressure them to learn. However, you can make learning process as natural as possible. You can make learning fun for your little one, and he would not even notice that this is already a part of his early home-schooling and your kid will not feel the pressure but instead he would feel encouraged and excited to learn while discovering new things every day.

One of the most essential things is to distinguish which place would be more motivating and suitable to promote learning. Unquestionably, the living room, where the family and visitors usually hang out, is not a perfect place for a child’s learning. Neither the play room nor entertainment room will serve right for this purpose. The most strategic place to promote learning is an area away from all his play things, and the television. It should also be quiet, and there are no distractions so he can concentrate and absorb all the lessons. But kids easily gets bored, so usually you can spend an hour or so for some learning activities and his home lessons, and that’s it. Usually, that’s not enough time for him to learn, so we have to find other ways that will further his learning development in a less boring yet effective way.

Aside from the home library, study room or study area, your kid’s bedroom can also play an important role in his learning process. Why? Because this is where he stays most of the time and he consider it as his personal territory. But how can you turn his bedroom into a place than can effectively promote learning?

If you have noticed, kids are easily attracted to colorful things. You can attach colorful and large numbers and letters in the bedroom walls. Or have rubberized mats that have letters and numbers on them. Some parents use glow in the dark shapes too, but I would suggest to avoid it while they are young because those are likley to keep them awake when it’s time to go to bed. Remember that although we want to make the bedroom a place or learning too, the primary function of the bedroom is to be a place for them to rest, and get adequate sleep to help them grow. So once the lights are turned out, they will be in the mood to sleep too.

Creativity and size is important, that’s why you must buy the biggest and most creative posters of the alphabet ang numbers, because it will attract their attention and is hard for them to miss it out. It is common for kids to ask ‘what is this’ or ‘what is that’ while pointing at the things that they are curious of — you must take advantage of this behavior and turn their being too inquisitive into a positive attitude towards learning. This way, it would be much easier for you to help your kid identify and familiarize with numbers and letters, especially the spelling of his name. And, because he sees them every day, he will learn about them so easily, and before you know it, he can already identify different colours, shapes, letters and numbers — or arrange letters that spells out his name.

You can also design or paint his bedroom in such a way that he would be able to identify things easily, like animals or fruits and other things related to the letters. Each night before going to sleep tell him a story about the animal characters in his bedroom, then you can ask him about it when he wakes up the next day. Keep a record of what he has learned. You can also make a learning calendar where he can place his star once he has learned something. You can also give him a reward once in awhile if he has achieved things like learning how to count or recite the alphabet. This will give him a sense of accomplishment; and encourage him to do even better.

Parents should realize that learning does not necessarily start at school or at a certain age, rather it starts at home when they are young, and even right at your kid’s bedroom. Make everyday a new day for your kids to learn something new in their very own learning wonderland.

One of the most essential things to teach our little ones is how to to keep himself safe at all times. Whether he is just playing around or doing other things, it is better to teach him to always stay safe and to follow what he can’t and cannot do. The earlier he becomes aware of danger and the possible results of his actions, the better.

But whatever we teach them must always come with action, because more than the sermons and words that we impart on them, they learn the lesson faster through actions. Like what people say, actions do really speak louder than words. You can tell your kid no don’t do this — but if he sees you doing otherwise, he would get puzzled and start thinking, if daddy can do it, why can’t I? So, we should always try to watch our actions whenever we are around our kids. Because youngsters love mimicking adults. Let’s say you are teaching him his first sport, or going around places where a construction site is nearby and he sees people wearing hard hats. Try to explain to him what the function of wearing a hard hat is, and how important is it that we take care of our heads.

Don’t be afraid to tell your little one how unsafe and dangerous it is if one’s head gets injured or so, but in the lightest possible manner that he can absorb and will not be something traumatic for his age. For example show him videos of players wearing MSA hard hats while playing softball or baseball, or show him people wearing helmets and all other protective gears while riding their bicycles and motorcycles, same with those other sports that involves the need to wear protective gears. Show him that it’s not only the head, but every part of the body that should be protected from harm and injury at all times.

You can even buy him his own protection gears. Let’s say for example, you are planning to teach him how to ride his very first bike, or how to skate. You can equip your little one with protection clothing and gears from the knee and elbow pads to the head protection gear, but it is important for him to see you also wearing one. Or if you and your wife would like to take him to watch a baseball league, you can also buy him sporty Jackson hard hats similar to what those players use, and teach him how to wear it properly. Explain to him why they are wearing it and how he could also play good like them someday, and safe.

Moms and Dads are always concerned about how small the amount of food their little toddlers consume, most especially first time parents. The amount of food they eat just never seem to be sufficient, but we must always keep in mind that unlike adults, toddlers have got very small tummy, that’s why they get full very fast.

Do not panic if your toddler eat too little every meal, it’s either he lacks interest on the food, or he is simply full. If you want to make sure that your toddler gets to eat the right amount of food necessary to provide him with the complete nutrients required in his daily recommended dietary allowance, have your little one eat more frequent healthy meals.

Just like feeding him with regular meals, making a toddler eat snacks is not an easy job. But there’s always a workaround, try to make eating a fun and exciting experience by giving him a very tasty yet healthy food, and prepare them in a colorful variety.

Teaching your toddler good table manners is one of the most challenging parts in their early training. At first, it may appear like a futile endeavor when you are not even able to make him sit still at the table. But, many parents have observed that to get your toddler interested, you have to get their full attention first, and the trick comes easy with the type of spoons and forks you provide them with. Toddlers get easily attracted to coloful forks and spoons and eventually they start to focus and follow your lead.

Teaching good table manners at a young age is important and the fashion with which you introduce your kids to appropriate eating habits will entail how long it will take them to learn. So begin with buying the right kind of cutlery.

Buy tablewares that are light-weight and are easy to grip. Try to find colorful forks and spoons with stickers or characters that your kid is interested in, fo example, his favorite cartoon character. And keep safety in mind, forks and spoons can hurt your child too just like other sharp objects, so go for those table wares that have rounded corners. Remind your little one the right way to use the fork, make sure that they keep the pointed part away from his eyes.

To familiarize toddler with the use of spoons and fork, at the start of every meal, provide him with his set of spoon and forks. Demonstrate to your toddler how to hold the spoon and fork properly. Let him join the rest of the family, during mealtime and eat your meal with zest.

Show your little toddler that using the spoon and fork is a ‘grown-up thing’ to do— let him serve and feed himself with his own new set of cutlery. And whenever he tries to use his bare hands to pick food directly, do not get upset so easily, rather be patient and simply hand him his spoon or fork, and tell him to use it for the whole duration of the meal. At first he may end up getting messy, but just be patient and don’t stop teaching and reminding him of the proper ways, until he finally learns to do ti right.

Last but not the least, always remember to show how much you appreciate their efforts to learn. When your toddler sits down still and quiet with a spoon, finishing his meals, don’t forget to praise him for behaving properly and for a job well done.

There are many things that a mommy can do for the baby that a daddy can’t and one of them — which is the most essential of all would be breastfeeding. That’s why mommy often get tired and don’t get adequate time to sleep. She has to take care of baby, while doing other things at home, and make sure that daddy has food when he gets home. It would have been better if this job can be shared by both, but only mommy can breastfeed baby, however, for daddies out there who wants to help ease the mommies’ burden, the ultimate solution is breast milk storage.

Through breast milk storage, Daddy can take turns with mommy in feeding the baby. While mommy gets some rest, daddy can bottle feed baby with the stored breast milk. Aside from the fact that it gives mommy enough time to rest and regain her strength, it’s also a perfect time for daddy to bond with his tiny little package of happiness. In order to do this, mommy’s breast-milk is pumped into a breast-milk storage container, freeze or refrigerate, and then when it’s time for mommy to sleep and baby asks for milk, there’s no need to wake her up.

At night or mid-dawn, Daddy can simply thaw out or warm up the stored breast-milk, and feed baby. Not all daddies get to experience this, and it’s such a joy to be able to feed your baby and be sure that he is still getting all the nutrients from his mommy’s milk. This also means big savings for the whole family since there’s no need to buy powdered formula milk that are not only expensive, but are not as healthy as mommy’s natural breast-milk.

As we all know, breast milk is still the best for babies up to two years old. For as long as the mommy has milk to provide, it is best that we make the most out of it. For those who doesn’t know and make it laughing stuff — breast milk contains all the needed nutrients to keep the baby’s immune system strong to fight against illnesses. So, even if you start feeding your baby solid food at 5 months old, you must still feed him with breast milk.

Milk storage system also helps bring mommy, daddy and baby closer. So to all daddies out there, don’t miss the chance to be able to play mommy’s role in feeding the baby when you can.
