I miss my abuelo’s stories about life and his experiences as a child and teen. He has seen and experienced the big contrast of the rural and urban life. His childhood days were wholly spent in a barrio of an island municipality in the province.

He says that life in the island is very different from the life in the city. Way back, there was still no sophisticated electronic gadgets in the island. There was no telephone, and communication was through the telecoms which was located kilometers away on top of the mountain. Their mode of transport by land was mostly by foot, and those who can afford, bought bicycles or motorcycles . By sea, they use the canoes, and the small motorized boats. The newspapers arrived days late, and they received the news through the radio. There was no television then, and they knew other events happening around them through radio and through the magazines and newspapers which usually came days later.

Life in the island was very simple. Their daily food consisted of rice and fish. Sometimes, they have cassava, sweet potatoes, yam, and other tubers which were abundant in the island. When rice supply became scanty, most of the islanders subsisted on these root crops. Viands was not a problem. The island is surrounded by a deep blue sea teeming with varieties of fish, shells, and other sea foods. They get vegetables from the farms, and other edible leaves in the mountain and steam these together with fish for their viand.

As in most rural areas, the islanders wake up early in the morning. By 4 o’clock in the morning, farmers went up to the mountain to till their farms. Others fed their chickens, and pigs. Most of the adult men and the elderly get together early in the morning to converse of what had transpired in the barrio, and in other barrios around the island during the night, while enjoying their favorite ashton cigars given by relatives abroad. They took good care of their farms and rests at home every Saturday and Sunday or go to the church barrio to attend mass. The grandmothers cleaned their backyards, and burned the rubbish of dried leaves under the fruit trees in their yards.

Nowadays, living in the rural areas isn’t much different from the urban areas. With the technology, electricity, media and the growing population. I must say, the quality of life was better back in my abuelo’s childhood years. The pollution was less too.

Thanksgiving day reminds me a lot of my grandpa. He would always tell us good stories about his childhood. My grandpa spent his childhood years in the province and those days were filled with fond memories. During his elementary school days, his classmates and grandpa went to the farms to catch dragonflies, and grasshoppers.

Dragonflies fascinate me so much too and catching one brings joy to the heart. I am a nature lover just like grandpa. He was the one who taught me and my brothers a lot of stuff. Like going camping and cook food using firewood or Jetboil stoves and sleep on tents.

He told us that when he was young, he spent his weekdays with his friends and accompanying his grandpa to the mountain to cut wood for fuel. But his main purpose of going was because he liked to see tall trees, hear the chirping of the birds. He also loved eating the delicious meat of young coconuts. Most of the week days he also spent swimming at the sea because his grandpa’s house was just nearby the seashore, and he swam often.

Wanna express your feelings but can’t seem to find the right words to say? Well, that shouldn’t be a problem. There are many other ways to communicate your feelings without any need for a single spoken word.

You can buy gifts, cook for your family, clean your dad’s car, or how about keepin it real at ProFlowers? Yes, girls love flowers, and whether it’s your mom, wife, girl bestfriend, crush or girlfriend that you want to express your thoughts and feelings to, flowers are always the safest choice.

It’s pretty hard to pick the right gift for a girl, most especially if they have a unique personality. But there’s something about the flowers that make them feel all mushy and good inside. So, if you want to make your lady smile, say it with flowers.

Clothes dryers make our lives so much easier, but never overlook their potential to cause fires. Each year many of the claims on NC homeowners insurance are the result of fires originating in the laundry room of the house.
Most dryer-related fires appear to be caused by a buildup of fine debris in the lint filter and exhaust vent. To avoid fires starting in your dryer, fire safety experts recommend that you:
• Have your dryer installed by a professional;
• Read the manufacturer’s user manual and follow operating instructions;
• Clean the lint filter after every load of laundry;
• Check the exhaust vent regularly, and remove any lint that may have built up in the vent pipe;
• Never overload the dryer;
• Never leave the dryer to run while you are asleep or are away from home; and
• Schedule regular maintenance checks by a professional if your dryer is gas operated.
Clothes that take longer than usual to dry, or feel hotter than usual after a drying cycle, may be warning signs of a dryer fault; have your dryer checked by a professional without delay.
Even a relatively small dryer fire is an unpleasant experience, and could result in the need to make a claim on your home insurance.

In this modern time of comfort and convenience, products to beautify your home are readily available at widest selection. There are more brands, design, shapes, aesthetics, color, and functionality to choose from that make home improvement more pleasurable.

But we should not only focus on aesthetics, but also on safety, and not just the interior of our homes, but even our garage, that we use most frequent. Having an expoxy garage floor coating can help make the garage floor slip resistant, therefore much safer for you, your kids and whole family.

So, if you’re still thinking of building, expanding or renovating your homes. Always always put safety first on all aspects, and having a safe garage is one of them.

If you’re planning to build your own home or renovate the existing ones, one thing to consider is making space for a garage. Automobiles or cars are one of the most valuable things we have aside from our homes, and all that’s in it. Protect your cars by having a secure garage, where you can park or leave your car without worrying.

We could always park our cars outside but longer exposure to the glare and the heat of the sun and the different types of weather conditions can damage the surfaces and paint of your car. So protect the paint from fading and preserve their newness. You can also protect your valuable cars from being stolen. Always check if your garage door is in good working condition too, and if not, get someone to repair garage door immediately. It will not only ensure your cars from being secure within your garage but also lessen delays just in case you’re in a hurry to take your car outside or inside.

Homes are for comfort and security not only for our loved ones and family, but also for our assets and valuables. So, make space for a garage. The space can also be used for other functions just in case you need one in the future.

All of us dream to build a beautiful home for our family, but sometimes we have to settle for what we can afford. It’s not opting for what’s less, rather it’s called being practical. Yes, indeed shelter is one of our most basic needs. It is where we build strong families, and nurture our children to be morally upright and be good citizens of our country, but it does not necessarily mean we should buy a single family home, most especially if you’re going through tough financial times.

Let us not dilly-dally and wait for tomorrow to make our decision. Actually, “tomorrow” never comes and never will. We are and will always be in the “present”. If we do not act today, we lost this day irretrievably, and we lost our tomorrows in consequence. If your dream is to live a life in Vegas, then go for it, there are many beautiful apartments in Las Vegas where you and your family can move to, and start a new life.

Be strong during these tough economic times. No matter what challenges may come your way, work to provide your family with a good place to live in that you can call home. Economic problems always come and go, but our life must go on for our family and loved ones, and there are too many beautiful things around us. Keep on dreaming and believing.

A home is important to all. Even nomads make their makeshift homes where they can sleep or take refuge during hot or rainy days. Big, beautiful homes are the status symbol in most societies. People who own them are considered affluent and are looked upon and respected in their community. It brings them more friends, joy and a sense of pride. But more than all that, homes are supposed to be a place for love, comfort and security for the family. It is a nice place to shelter us from the harsh elements; to shield us from the nuances and protect us from the troubles of the street.

To own a home is the dream of all. We work hard just to acquire this basic need. But we should also consider as a top priority to make it safe, most especially, if you travel often, and leave your loved ones, especially the kids. Install security devices such as cctv cameras so you can monitor your home even while you’re away. It is better to be mindful of the possible dangers, and to have safety precautions, because you have no control over how the bad elements think. Keep your family home safe and secure, all the time.

Their car seats must not only have seat belts, but must also be soft and comfortable to minimize fatigue and body pains. Consider having soft car wedge seat cushions to absorb the body weight when driving especially in rough roads, and prevent back pains and other body aches. A soft car wedge seat cushion makes driving easy and more comfortable, thus minimizing accidents on the road.

When buying a new car for your teen also have the car equipped with different new technology devices. Aside from the fact that you can use a car gps to locate places that you have not been to before, or follow the right roads, it can also help locate the car of your teen just in case it gets stolen, or if they haven’t gone home after late hours.
