Uncle Luis’ fight against cancer

I remember during my first visit when we had my late Uncle Luis confined at the hospital, I got scared we were told that he won’t be able to eat anymore so they will have to do certain things to be able to sustain the nutrient in his body such as fluid or nutrient infusion, etc. I thought things like that only happens in movies, but during that time, it was real.

Our loved one lying down in the ICU bed, helpless and hardly breathing, only being supported with machines and other equipments to keep him alive. It was a difficult sight to see. But when my uncle woke up and opened his eyes, he was smiling, as if he wasn’t feeling pain at all. He was even the one who told us not to worry about him and to go home and take some rest. I told him I would never leave his side, and he was even joking about me getting sick instead.

I couldn’t imagine myself playing his part, but the happy man I saw in uncle Luis surpassed the pain he felt during that time. The nurses and doctors who was looking after him and administering the use of  infusion pumps in sustaining the nutrients in my uncle’s body, said that they admire the courage of my uncle to face his fate and the fight against cancer. He even had the courage to fight and live for an even longer period than what the doctors gave him.

Bringing the patient to a hospital is a wise thing to do, instead of letting him stay at home. Infusion pump and safety medical equipments really help a lot when it comes to treatments for patients who have serious cases like Uncle Luis. Many families panic and get scared when told that the patient has to be at the ICU for observation, and any type of infusion is needed for treatment, most especially those who never experienced it before. But for the past years, medical technology played an important role in sustaining lives and treating patients with various illnesses.
