5 tips to help improve your baby’s sleeping habits

babysleepAre you  having problems getting adequate amount of sleep? Does your baby wake up crying numerous times during night time? If yes, then these easy baby sleep tips may provide you much needed help.

A newborn will frequently sleep more than 15 hours per day. The problem though is that they waken 7 or 8 times during that period of time. And of course when they wake up they usually cry and this will prevent you from having a good night’s slumber. The good thing is that as your youngster gets older they should be able to sleep for longer periods of time. For instance, by the time your baby hits 3 months old, he may sleep for about 5 hours straight before waking up. And by around 6 months of age, he could be sleeping from 8 to 12 hours.

Here are 5 tips to help improve your baby sleeping habits

  • During the daytime when your baby is up, keep him energized and interested by playing with him, speaking to him, or singing  jolly songs to him. Also open blinds, dims or draperies and let enough amount of light in. Have him listen to all the natural sounds and aware of the activity going on in your household.
  • Keep track of your baby’s nap periods during daytime and don’t let him sleep for long periods of time. If he sleeps a lot of times during the day he may not sleep well at nighttime.
  • Try to keep a regular schedule of your youngster’s bed time. Try practicing some unwinding activities with him just before bed time such as bathing, playing comfy games, talking or lulling him.
  • Let your youngster have enough time to fall asleep. Its not strange for infants and kids to cry or squirm after being put to bed. Touch him and speak in a reassuring fashion to let him sense your presence until he relax off to sleep.
  • When your youngster requires feeding during nighttime, try to keep the surroundings as silent as possible and the lights low — very dim. When the feeding is over, lull your child back to sleep.

Each infant’s sleep patterns can be totally different and you may have to change or adjust your schedule to find the best sleep times for your young one, and to get enough sleep yourself.

The schedule thing is the hardest for us. Seems we keep getting into a routine just for it to change a few months later. But, now that the boys are getting older, sleeping is not so difficult. But, when they were toddlers and babies it was a nightmare for us. Good advice!

Yes, most especially if you are working, or shifting schedules with our wives in taking care of the baby…
I think they get to sleep longer at night as they get older coz they become more active during daytime.
    thanks for dropping by Keith.
