handsThere’s a saying that hardworking people have calloused hands. This is partly true, but not all hardworking people have calloused hands. Some are able to maintain callous-free hands without being lazy.

Calloused hands are the result of too much handling or gripping tightly of heavy objects. If your hand’s skin is too thin, repeated handling of such objects will give you wounds and make you prone to infection. The body has to protect you, therefore it grows callouses.

Gardening or doing laundry, initially, can cause wounds or can cut the skin. As one repeatedly does the same activity, the skin of the hands adjusts. Callouses develop. If you’ve notice those who are working in the contstruction or same nature of work, they are more prone to having calloused hands.

But callouses have remedies, it’s a problem that is easy to resolve. All you need is to refrain from handling heavy tools or activities that require strong grip. If you cannot avoid doing so, use thick gloves to cushion your hands. As much as possible, refrain from handling strong soaps or doing heavy laundry. Leave that work to the washing machine.

You can also ask for advice from your dermatologist. He or she can give you a medication that will remove the thick callouses. There are creams or lotions that you can use to moisturize and soften your skin. By doing so regularly, your hands will be soft and smooth in a few months’ time.
