Malaria Prevention
As we always say, prevention is definitely better than cure. Protect your family from becoming victims of the dreaded Malaria disease. Malaria is common in many provinces, and certain areas in the different continents of the world.
The first thing you should do prior to going on a trip or taking a vacation is to inquire at the department of health whether Malaria is prevalent in the area that you plan to visit. The best precaution that you can do is to avoid being bitten by the anopheles mosquito which harbors the malaria parasite. It is the female mosquito that bites and is active only at night, therefore you should be particularly careful to protect yourself from being bitten between dusk and dawn.
But it is hard to tell what mosquito is present and whether it is the type that carries malaria, so the best thing to do is to get anti-malaria shots or take anti malaria drugs like chloroquine prescribed and administered by your physician, prior to your family’s scheduled travel.
Insect repellent lotions can also be applied over exposed areas and even on clothing because mosquito bites can actually penetrate cloth. Fans and mosquito repellent sprays can also be helpful.
Despite the recommended prevention measures, you may still acquire malaria because of resistant cases. Therefore, any fever episodes within one year after leaving the place should be properly evaluated to check the possibility of malaria infection. Don’t take malaria for granted, it has caused the death of many, and continues to plague certain places. Protect your family’s health.
