Year of the Water Dragon

Kung hei fat choi! Welcome to the Year of the Water Dragon. they said that it’s going to be a good year, and I really hope it will be good to all of us. We are not of Chinese descent, but we also celebrate the Chinese new year. It has become a tradition since we moved into a community where majority of the population are of Chinese descent.

They love to give gifts and celebrate. The merry making is nonstop and the fireworks are marvelous. They said that it helps drive away bad luck and evil spirits. There’s street dancing, incense burning, and the smell of different Chinese food. Even the non-Chinese communities have also learned to embrace the culture, just like us.

Many stored owned by Chinese people are giving super high discounts, because they want to have many sales on new year, to bring more luck and money for the entire year. While consumers take advantage of this chance too, from basic commodities to appliances to gadgets, like music players, tablets and ipod touch sale, even mobile phones too. Chinese new year is indeed a great time not only to celebrate but also to save. People who are born in the year of the dragon and other signs should not base their life on luck though, because if you really want to be successful, you should work on it, and if you get lucky, then much better.

Modern Art Genius

With the talent and technology available today to perfectly copy the original, it is very probable that we can be deceived to buy the fake ones. If you’re n art enthusiast or an artist, you appreciate original work and you can tell the difference. I started to appreciate more when I met an art exhibitor who invited me to one of the prime exhibits, he handed people translucent plastic business cards with his name on it. He told me to just give him a call, if I’m interested.

He exhibited works of modern artists and masters. I realized that But we can find good contemporary paintings in place of the very rare works of the masters. Some modern artists are gifted with the talent to paint like the classical painters of the Renaissance period. Their paintings may not be as good, but the styles and the brush strokes of the classical masters are evident in their works, and of course, they are original and genuine.

Have you heard about the Russian art genius, Atroshenko? His paintings resemble the works of the old masters! They are so masterfully done as if a Leonardo da Vinci or a Rembrandt or a Michelangelo had been reincarnated in him! His single brush strokes resemble Antonio Luna’s confident brush strokes in Spoliarium that mysteriously combine the effects of light and shadow to bring out the realistic movement of the human anatomy in its spontaneous and natural motion!

Rural Living back in the days

I miss my abuelo’s stories about life and his experiences as a child and teen. He has seen and experienced the big contrast of the rural and urban life. His childhood days were wholly spent in a barrio of an island municipality in the province.

He says that life in the island is very different from the life in the city. Way back, there was still no sophisticated electronic gadgets in the island. There was no telephone, and communication was through the telecoms which was located kilometers away on top of the mountain. Their mode of transport by land was mostly by foot, and those who can afford, bought bicycles or motorcycles . By sea, they use the canoes, and the small motorized boats. The newspapers arrived days late, and they received the news through the radio. There was no television then, and they knew other events happening around them through radio and through the magazines and newspapers which usually came days later.

Life in the island was very simple. Their daily food consisted of rice and fish. Sometimes, they have cassava, sweet potatoes, yam, and other tubers which were abundant in the island. When rice supply became scanty, most of the islanders subsisted on these root crops. Viands was not a problem. The island is surrounded by a deep blue sea teeming with varieties of fish, shells, and other sea foods. They get vegetables from the farms, and other edible leaves in the mountain and steam these together with fish for their viand.

As in most rural areas, the islanders wake up early in the morning. By 4 o’clock in the morning, farmers went up to the mountain to till their farms. Others fed their chickens, and pigs. Most of the adult men and the elderly get together early in the morning to converse of what had transpired in the barrio, and in other barrios around the island during the night, while enjoying their favorite ashton cigars given by relatives abroad. They took good care of their farms and rests at home every Saturday and Sunday or go to the church barrio to attend mass. The grandmothers cleaned their backyards, and burned the rubbish of dried leaves under the fruit trees in their yards.

Nowadays, living in the rural areas isn’t much different from the urban areas. With the technology, electricity, media and the growing population. I must say, the quality of life was better back in my abuelo’s childhood years. The pollution was less too.

The Amazing Love of God

The amazing love of God is beyond the comprehension of the human mind. The amazing love of God is deeper than the ocean, wider than the universe, and as eternal as eternity.

The amazing love of God is Jesus Christ condescending into human form and dwelling among us. The amazing love of God is the Lord sympathizing with the sufferings and afflictions of men: healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and giving hope to the oppressed.

The amazing love of God is Jesus Christ as the ultimate sacrificial Lamb that was offered at the Cross of Calvary for our redemption. The amazing love of God is the the Lord Jesus Christ suffering the curse of the law, and dying the very ignominious death for us all.  The amazing love of God is the Savior Jesus Christ praying for the forgiveness of His tormentors.

The amazing love of God is in every molecule of the air we breathe, and in the water we drink. The amazing love of God is in the delicious food we eat. The amazing love of God is in the sweetness of fruits, and in the joy and happiness of enjoying them. The amazing love of God is what keeps family together, for as long as he remains the center of our lives. His love is like unbreakable wedding bands, never fading, never failing.

The amazing love of God is the sure promise of Christ’s return to take us back home. The amazing love of God is his changing us to immortal bodies and giving us eternal life. The amazing love of God is God himself living with us in eternity where there is no pain, tears, hunger, thirst, sufferings and afflictions.

Celebrating the Amazing Love

What do we really thank for and celebrate on Christmas day? Many people forget about the real essence of the occasion. We all get together to be thankful and to celebrate the amazing love of God. It in us all, inside and out, and in all the things around us. It is in the beautiful flowers that bloom, and in its sweet fragrance that fills the air. The amazing love of God is in the verdant plains and mountains, and in crystal morning dews that fall from grasses and leaves to moisten the earth.

The amazing love of God is in the songs of birds that happily fly on the air. The amazing love of God is in the droning of beetles, in the chirping of crickets, in the lowing of cattle, in the rustling of leaves, in the flowing brooks, and in the gushing of springs from rocks that all orchestrate to a very melodious song that calms the soul.

The amazing love of God is in the beauty of nature. The amazing love of God is in the beautiful colors of the rainbow, and in fine drizzles that come with it. We humans can use hayward pool heater parts to provide warmth in our pools during the cold season, or when the cold water is unbearable to dip in but only the amazing love of God is in the warmth of the sunshine, and in the cool refreshing morning breeze.

We celebrate the amazing love of God is in the smiles of loved ones, and friends, and in the happiness and laughter of children. The amazing love of God is the encouraging words that enliven the heart, and in the helping hands that ease the heavy burdens of a weary soul.

Merry Christmas! Let’s all remember the reasons for celebrating it.

Family Moments using Web Cameras

Not all families have the luxury to celebrate and spend Christmas Holidays together. There are many people who are working in other places or countries or those who live far apart from their loved ones. Some of them have work during the holiday seasons and are unable to go home to their families or home countries. This is the time where most families make use of web cameras to be able to get in touch with their loved ones, and though hundreds or thousands of miles away from each other, through web presence, they remain intact and connected. With the help of this technology, families get to spend moment together, and talk like they’re sitting face to face.

No matter how far apart, there’s always a way to connect with your friends and loved ones, so don’t miss every opportunity. Send them e-greetings or e-mail, and chat with them through web cam. For sure they will be happy and there’s no more reason to be homesick.

Club graphic t shirts for Earth Hour

People in our village are active in different sports. Some loves to play lawn tennis, others love volleyball, some men and women are font of basketball, but me and my friends, as well as some of our wives and siblings are part of the badminton club. We decided to join the next earth hour run for a cause as a a group, so we made our own design for the graphic t shirts that we’re going to use as the official uniform of the badminton club in our village.
This is also a good chance to bond with kids and families, as well as take part in supporting earth hour.I’m pretty sure it will be a fun experience for all of us. I’ve heard that other clubs have also decided to join. I can’t wait for it.

My Grandpa’s childhood

Thanksgiving day reminds me a lot of my grandpa. He would always tell us good stories about his childhood. My grandpa spent his childhood years in the province and those days were filled with fond memories. During his elementary school days, his classmates and grandpa went to the farms to catch dragonflies, and grasshoppers.

Dragonflies fascinate me so much too and catching one brings joy to the heart. I am a nature lover just like grandpa. He was the one who taught me and my brothers a lot of stuff. Like going camping and cook food using firewood or Jetboil stoves and sleep on tents.

He told us that when he was young, he spent his weekdays with his friends and accompanying his grandpa to the mountain to cut wood for fuel. But his main purpose of going was because he liked to see tall trees, hear the chirping of the birds. He also loved eating the delicious meat of young coconuts. Most of the week days he also spent swimming at the sea because his grandpa’s house was just nearby the seashore, and he swam often.

California Life Insurance: How Much Do You Need?

Certain things are inevitable. You will one day have to face your own mortality. For many people, they fear death not for themselves but for the ones who depend on them. A California life insurancepolicy can help make sure your loved ones are provided for in the future.

While you may know that taking out life insurance is a wise move, you may be at a loss as to how much coverage you really need. This number is different for each person and is dependent on a variety of things.

The first thing you need to decide is who you want to provide for and why you need to. Do you want to make sure your spouse has no trouble keeping the house after you have passed away? Perhaps you are more interested in giving your grandchild a college fund. Whatever the reason, estimate how much money you will need and use that as your base number.

The next thing you need to do is add in the cost of various expenses such as paying off any debt you owe, paying for your funeral, and dishing out the estate taxes.. Adding in a specific amount for these items will help ensure your loved ones are not financially burdened immediately after death.

No matter how much life insurance you are interested in buying, you might benefit from a frank discussion with an experience agent. Your agent can inform you about the range of life policy options that might suit the purpose you have in mind. He or she can also guide you through the application stage.
